Bill Sorenson began work in late January as Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch’s first Human Resource Vice President. Sorenson has extensive administrative experience in state, nation and international human resources, and has achieved a designation of Senior Professional Human Resources and is a certified Myers Briggs Administrator.

Sorensen came to the Ranch after serving nearly 10 years with NAVTEQ LLC North America, which is a world leader in premium-quality digital map data. He served as Senior Human Resource Manager for North America, and was based in Fargo. At NAVTEQ Sorenson co-developed the Employee Performance Planning process; chaired the North American Committee for safety standards/policy; created, established and delivered management training program for the company; and developed and implemented HR program/systems for the Fargo location.

Sorenson began his career as a social worker with Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota from September 1975 to July 1980. He then served as VP of Human Resources and Operations at Bethany Homes, Inc., Fargo; as a Licensed Instructor and HR Assistant at Northwest Technical College; and as Human Resources Director for the city of Fargo before his career at NAVTEQ.

At DBGR, Sorenson is developing a Human Resources Department, which will serve all employees. A first step toward developing that department has been to establish a Human Resource Team. Team members include: Linda Hill, HR Generalist, Minot; Karen Schlabsz, Administrative Assistant and Site Trainer, Bismarck; and Linda Janich, Administrative Assistant: Christina Hemmer, Agency Lead Training Coordinator; and Marlys Knight, Administrative Assistant, Fargo.

Sorenson also is developing new policy and procedures related to compensation for all DBGR employees.

He is married to Carol Beckstrom and the couple has three children: Leah Peterson, and Adam and Erik Sorenson.
