Angus and Leigh

The children who come to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch have endured so much. They have been neglected, abused, trafficked, and/or lived with difficult psychiatric issues. Their behaviors and world views have been seriously distorted. The Ranch’s teachers and doctors and nurses and therapists and treatment staff work very hard to help them overcome their challenges. I am so proud of our staff for wanting to create the best place possible for children to heal from trauma.

But sometimes, it is the things other kids take for granted that are milestones for these young folks. The “normal” coming-of-age things that felt out of reach when they were in the midst of their hurt. Two emails crossed my desk this morning that made me smile.

“Good morning team, Angus took his permit test and passed yesterday!! Please congratulate him on receiving his driving permit when you see him today! He is very excited about this.” 😊 Thank you, Ashton, Case Manager.”

and…

“I wanted to let the team know that Leigh just completed her last class and WILL BE GRADUATING!!!!! It goes to show all of the hard work that we do has awesome outcomes for our kids!!” Thank you, Tammy, Special Education Strategist.”

Sure, kids pass their permit tests and get ready to graduate all the time. But for these kids, with all they have had to conquer, these are huge wins. You help us help them make that happen.

Hooray for Angus and Leigh!

Please keep the children and staff of Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch in your prayers.
