Happy New Year!
I remember my second grade teacher, Mrs. Loftus, reading through a list of predictions for how life would be when we were old… “around 2025.” I don't recall all of them, but I do remember that buying water in plastic bottles and being able to see people on our phones (which would, of course, still be anchored to the wall) were on the list.
We could not fathom these great things that were coming. Some seemed silly – you certainly would not “buy water.” Others, like the “face phones,” for kids still on party lines, promised an exciting world we would take part in creating.
As we enter 2025, I think about the precious children at Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch and the world they look to in the future. Certainly, for these kids, their past has been something they have endured, not truly lived.
Other children may think about the future in terms of flying cars and living in space, or candy that is so healthy you’re supposed to eat it. For Ranch children, dreams of the future include love in a forever family, going to sleep without fear, and caring friends that they can trust (and yes, they would love the healthy candy they are supposed to eat, too)!
Because of the kindness, caring, faith, and love of friends like you, 2025 brings great hope to children who have none.
I wish for you the best possible year. Please keep the staff and children of Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch in your prayers.
