Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch received $5,000 from the Cass County Electric Cooperative Foundation. The grant funds will be used to purchase appliances for the Fargo Youth Home, as a part of a renovation project with the Home Builders Association of Fargo Moorhead (HBA-FM). The HBA-FM, with the help of the Home Builders Care Fund, is donating time and materials for the rest of the kitchen remodeling project.
The Fargo Youth Home is a residential facility for children in the foster care system, ages 12-18, who need supportive services. In addition to providing for children’s basic needs of food and shelter, the children have access to therapy, recreation therapy, education, and spiritual life activities.
The Youth Home also teaches independent living skills to youth nearing adulthood—to prepare them to live on their own after they turn 18. The appliances purchased through this grant will not only be used to prepare food for the children at the Youth Home, but will also give residents on the Independent Living Track a place to learn and practice the cooking and cleaning skills they need to live on their own.
Cass County Electric Cooperative Foundation is a membership-supported foundation of Cass County Electric Foundation, funded by Operation Round Up. Operation Round up works by rounding up the electric bills of cooperative members to the nearest dollar. These extra few cents are placed into the care of the Cass County Electric Cooperative Foundation. A volunteer independent board of directors, comprised of CCEC members, accepts applications and awards grants to individuals in need and to help support nonprofit organizations. Since the Foundation’s inception in 1993, members have paid out $2.5 million in grants.
