On September 25, the students on the Ranch's Dakota Memorial School campuses gathered around the flagpole for the annual See You At The Pole event. This is a gathering and encouragement of our nation's schools and leadership through prayer. The idea is that before school, all across our country, students and faculty meet around their flagpoles for a few moments of prayer.
It wasn't a big event by anyone's objective standards; the whole thing lasted maybe 10 minutes. But, I am far from objective. I know what it takes for these children, who have been so traumatized, insulted, bullied, abused, to stand quietly, respectfully, and pray for others. It takes commitment from every single person at the Ranch to help these children believe they can be their best selves. It takes hard work, compassion, expertise, and an unrelenting ability to be present to them in their pain. It takes your support to provide prayers and resources that bring the extra strength they must lean into. It takes understanding of their potential.
With all of that, I stood quietly with them while they prayed. And truthfully, that quiet little event was a miracle.
