The Elmer & Kaya Berg Foundation awarded $1,000 to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch to purchase trees that will beautify its Fargo campus and restore the green spaces for the children served.
At the Ranch, children who have suffered much trauma learn to regulate their emotions and develop coping skills to deal with the trauma of their pasts. Having a beautiful, well-kept outdoor space for children to collect themselves and calm their thoughts and bodies is important for them to begin healing.
Kids at the Ranch live with high levels of stress—they are away from friends and family and working through difficult psychiatric and behavioral issues. Spending time in nature can take them away from the fears and burdens that weigh them down. Having access to green spaces right where they live and go to school is a beneficial coping skill for many kids.
Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch is a Christ-centered residential treatment and education center for children and their families. We help the most troubled, complicated, and amazing kids by providing best-in-class psychiatric therapy and trauma-informed care, where we look kids in the eye, walk with them, and help them become their best selves. In addition to Residential Treatment Facilities in Fargo, Bismarck, and Minot, the Ranch provides Outpatient Psychiatric and Psychological Services, and Spiritual Life Programs. Our on-campus school, Dakota Memorial School (DMS), provides a personalized education for kids who have psychiatric, behavioral, and trauma issues.
