We welcome guests of all ages at the 13th Annual BLT Day, Saturday, May 12, 2018, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., at Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, 6301 19th Ave. N.W., Minot. The money raised through this family-friendly event purchase supplies/equipment (seeds, bulbs, soil, hand tools, pots, teaching materials, etc.), greenhouse utilities, maintenance/repairs and staff costs directly related to greenhouse program development and instruction.

Sale of vegetable and floral plants, ornamental grasses, herbs, hanging plants, perennials (new this year), chapel bird houses and planters. (The plants are raised by Ranch residents and staff, and the planters are built by Ranch

About the Greenhouse Technology Program
Most of the children who come to the Ranch have never had the opportunity to care for and grow plants. We provide this experience to the youth through our summer Greenhouse Program and school-year classes in horticulture and botany.
Research has shown that school gardening projects have several benefits for the student and the environment, including improved overall performance in science class, increased social skills displayed by students, improved attitude toward the environment by younger students, increased interest in eating foods like fruits and vegetables, and an overall improvement regarding a student’s attitude toward learning.
Gardening is a relaxing tool Ranch kids can use as a "therapeutic tool" to deal with life challenges and stressors. Students working in our greenhouses communicate more often and with greater success. They learn and practice leadership skills, and learn techniques in small gardening that can transfer to a life-long skill and an increased interest in learning.
