A big part of my job is thanking some amazing people who care deeply for the precious kids we serve at Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch. When I call or visit to thank them for their prayers and/or financial support, I have the incredible honor of hearing their stories and learning why they support the Ranch.
I recall talking with a retired teacher who started giving to the Ranch in the 60’s after the Ranch helped one of her students. She said the young man was having a hard time and didn’t respond well to his parents or respect those in authority. His dad took him to the Ranch. At the Ranch, that young man’s life was turned around and he became quite successful. She was so moved by his turnaround that she started supporting the Ranch financially. She said, “If the Ranch could help that young man, I know it can help others.” And, she wanted to make a difference.
Another donor told me about hiring a young man to help them move. As they watched him box up their belongings, they overhead him commenting on a bottle of honey that had a Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch logo on it. He told his co-worker that if it weren’t for the Ranch, he’d be dead. Then he went on to say he wished he could have got his brother to the Ranch. Hearing that conversation reminded them why they support the Ranch.
Many of you have also shared that your parents gave to the Ranch, both sacrificially and from their abundance. And that you wanted to continue the tradition of giving because your parents cared about the kids at the Ranch.
